Nationaltheater Weimar

Neben Mannheim und München das dritte deutsche Nationaltheater: Weimar. Und auf dem Platz davor natürlich die Herren Goethe und Schiller.

    Is it just called the National Theater or is it actually state-owned?

    It is owned by the Bundesland (federal state) of Thuringia and the City of Weimar, so the financial situation is quite good. By the way, many theaters in Germany are owned by federal states and/or cities, but unfortunately culture is almost the first department to save money, so some theaters have got really severe financial problems.

    It is the same here. Except that the theaters and cultural groups are usually privately owned but they have some federal funding. Right now they are trying to cut funding to almost all cultural institutions.
