Basilius-Kathedrale

Kann es eine noch typischere russische Kirche geben als die aus neun einzelnen Kapellen bestehende Basilius-Kathedrale in Moskau?

  1. It is so pretty. Architecture has gone downhill in the last century. (Does "gone downhill" make sense to you? I means declined or gotten worse.)

  2. Yes, it was not hard to guess what "to go downhill" means. You're right, there are so many threats to architecture: Lack of money, neglecting, and especially in the last century in Europa, wars.

  3. I think there is a lack of expected longevity too. Strip malls get built here where less than a quarter of a mile a way the same sort of structure is sitting empty. Sometimes the new mall sits empty too.

  4. Sometimes architecture can be very irresponsible. We've seen that in East Germany after reunification when new ugly malls have been built without trying to revitalize the existing infrastructure. So sad!
