Marienkäfer

Als kleiner Junge glaubte ich immer, ein Marienkäfer sei so viele Jahre alt, wie er Punkte auf seinem Rücken hat.

    I have heard something similar here.

    Do you have a problem with the Asian ladybug there? People have imported so many for use in their gardens here that you hardly ever see a real ladybug. The Asian ones can bite and you will find them covering surfaces. It is very annoying.

    Indeed, I have found an article which describes exactly that problem. Fortunately it is not (yet) a big issue, but is hard to say how the future will be.

    There was a big invasion of domestic ladybugs in 2009 at the Baltic Sea, and some years ago I have heard about another invasion where car drivers on the highway were warned about reduced visibility caused by big ladybug swarms. I don't know if that can be true...
