  1. What is that strange cement creature? That church looks tiny. Do you see a lot of US flags there? (We don't see a lot of German flags, though there are some around, but we do see a lot of Scandinavian flags.) A cover for your glass is a good thing!

  2. I guess the creature is a remnant of the last UFO landing... It is somehow suggestive of French Niki de Saint Phalle's sculptures (http://is.gd/ve5kwF).

The tiny church is located near the graveyard, so it think it is a kind of silent prayer chapel.

In general, you don't see many flags here at all. Currently there are some more due to women's soccer world cup. The US flag was the only one I saw - and a really hard job to take a picture of the nicely blowing flag: Waiting for the right gust of wind...

The cover (in the local Hessian dialect "Deckelche") is a traditional protection against all that might harm your apple wine: Insects, pollen, blossoms, raindrops - and most important in late summer when sitting outside chestnuts falling from the trees!

  3. Yes, a chestnut falling into your wine would not be good.
