USA - Brasilien 7:5 (n. E.)

Was für ein Fußballspiel! Welch eine Dramatik! Welch ein Sieg trotz zweier Fehlentscheidungen der überforderten Schiedsrichterin! Gegen eine zurecht ausgepfiffene Brasilianerin und mit einem der deutschen Sprache nur bedingt mächtigen Reporter: Es heißt "Die USA sind im Halbfinale" und nicht "Die USA ist..." Das ist sogar nach der Rechtschreibreform so! Wohl noch nie was von Pluraletantum gehört, oder?

Thanks to all members of the US women's soccer team, especially to Hope Solo, Abby Wambach and Ali Krieger. Congratulations! Go for World Cup, USA!

    Neither Google nor the sports reporter are capable of the German language: You have to say "Die USA sind..." and not "Die USA ist..." By the way, for the English language I've found an interesting article about this topic at BBC: http://is.gd/YNZdnI

    So...this post just caused Rodney and I to discuss the use of plural or singular for longer than I think I have ever stopped to worry about it before!
